Rule: MIN, MAX and SUM are taken over the incidents column of the rows for that primary type; SUM arrests is the sum of the arrests column over the same rows. "years with rows" is how many yearly rows the type has, which is fewer than 26 for types the records do not carry in every calendar year.
The two non-crime values the records also carry, NON-CRIMINAL and DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, are left out of this table and its totals; they have pages of their own on Crime types.
Across the 32 types the smallest MIN value on the table is 1 and the largest MAX value is 99,292.
Where these figures come from
Every figure on this page is computed from the record file annual_by_type.json, downloaded from the City of Chicago Open Data Portal and fetched on 2026-10-30. Source: Chicago Police Department, Crimes - 2001 to Present (dataset ijzp-q8t2) via City of Chicago Open Data Portal. Sources, licence and fetch date.
All figures are counts of incident reports submitted to the Chicago Police Department. The arrest count is the number of those reports the same records flag as resulting in an arrest. These are reports, not proven offences, and an arrest is not a conviction.
